Greater Western Sydney GIANTS midfielders Lachie Whitfield and Stephen Coniglio have been recalled to the side to play Melbourne this Saturday at ŠKODA Stadium.
Whitfield was the 2012 number one draft pick and has been a standout for the GIANTS in his debut season, averaging 17 possessions in his first 15 matches.
Coniglio was amongst the UWS GIANTS best in the NEAFL last week following a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for two weeks.
Will Hoskin-Elliott will miss the match due to concussion suffered late in the match against Collingwood while defender Sam Darley has been omitted.
GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy says the GIANTS are preparing for another strong effort after solid performances against Collingwood and Essendon in the last fortnight.
“We’ll have a good experienced team in this week and it will be a fantastic game at SKODA Stadium,” says Sheedy.
“The Melbourne Football Club is going to be hungry after a bit of a belting last week and they’ll want to come and perform extremely well.”
The match against the Demons will see the GIANTS celebrate the cultural diversity of Western Sydney.
“It’s a unique area Western Sydney and this match will be tremendous,” says Sheedy.
“You’ve got 600,000 people who’ve come into the west of Sydney from all over the world, we must make sure they connect with AFL and get to see it.
“Every time I get to talk to other people from around the world, when they actually get to see a game, they really enjoy it and that’s one of the good things about having a team playing here at Skoda Stadium,” he said.
