GIANTS young gun Finn Callaghan has turned his back on rival offers to sign a huge four-year deal with the club.

Originally out of contract at the end of the upcoming 2025 season, Callaghan has reinforced his commitment to the GIANTS with a new deal which will see him remain in orange and charcoal until at least the end of the 2029 AFL season.

One of the most sought-after targets from opposition clubs, the explosive 21-year-old midfielder bypassed extremely lucrative deals from rival clubs in his home state of Victoria to remain a GIANT for another four years.

Rapidly emerging as one of the competition’s best young midfielders, Callaghan was drafted by the GIANTS with the third overall pick in the 2021 Draft after bursting onto the scene with dominant performances with the Sandringham Dragons in the Coates Talent League.

Debuting for the club in round five of the 2022 AFL season, the big-bodied midfielder impressed from the get-go and in 2023 received the club’s Rising Star Award following a brilliant second season.

Possessing a booming left foot and already one of the most powerful midfielders in the competition, Callaghan has continued to elevate his game across each of his first three seasons and will enter the club’s 2025 campaign looking to take his game to even greater heights following a stellar 2024 season.

Combining time as both a wingman and an inside midfielder, Callaghan finished last season averaging 23 disposals, 3.8 inside 50s, 3.6 tackles, and 3.4 clearances per game to cement himself as a young star of the competition.

Viewed by many as the future of the GIANTS’ midfield alongside fellow young gun Tom Green, Callaghan’s new deal is another glowing endorsement for the GIANTS who continue to re-sign stars such as Jesse Hogan, Aaron Cadman, Sam Taylor and Brent Daniels.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, was thrilled to secure the signature of the highly sought-after midfielder.

“Finn has shown over his first three seasons that he’s an immense young talent in this competition and we are rapt to sign him to a new four-year deal,” McCartney said.

“A player of Finn’s talent and age meant there was always going to be huge interest from other clubs and it’s fantastic that he’s re-committed to the club as we see him as a huge piece of our future.

“Finn can see the bright future of the club under Adam Kingsley and wants to be part of the success that we strongly believe is on the horizon.

“He showed last year in just his third year that he can have a significant impact on games despite his young age and we are extremely excited about the player he can become for us this season and beyond.

“The other fantastic thing with Finn is that not only is he clearly an exceptionally talented footballer, but he is one of the nicest young men you will ever meet. A player’s character is a really important factor to us as a footy club and having people like Finn Callaghan only further enhances the fantastic environment at the GIANTS.”

GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews, was thrilled Callaghan will call the GIANTS home until at least the end of 2029

We are building a great club in one of the great cities in the world. It’s exciting for everyone that is a part of it. We have a strong culture built on exceptional relationships and Finn’s commitment to the GIANTS demonstrates that.”

Callaghan’s new deal comes following a brilliant summer on the track as he prepares for his fourth season, with the young gun one of the GIANTS’ best in their pre-season practice match with the Swans last Friday.

After taking on the Blues in the 2025 AAMI Community Series in Canberra this Friday, the GIANTS will open their season the following week with a monster Opening Round clash with Collingwood at ENGIE Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
