The GIANTS’ AFLW pre-season officially got underway on Monday night.
With the club’s first-year players having completed their induction over the past few weeks, the remaining available players fronted up for their first session as the GIANTS look towards 2021.
It was the first session for Melbournians Tanya Hetherington, Jessica Dal Pos and new recruit Katherine Smith, who all finished their two-week quarantine late last week.
Keeping with tradition, the girls returned in style with a 2km time trial on a warm 30-degree night.
Renowned runner Nicola Barr was in impressive form, recording a personal best time to cross the line first.
Former heptathlete and new recruit Tarni Evans finished just behind Barr.
Defender and trainee firefighter Lou Stephenson also ran a PB to round out the top three.
Former netballer Taylah Davies came in fourth while captain Alicia Eva and rising star Haneen Zreika crossed the line together in fifth place.
The AFLW team are back training three times a week ahead of the 2021 season, with further details around the 2021 season to be announced over the coming weeks.
