With the player exchange period now behind us, the attention of the footy world now turns to next month’s NAB AFL Draft.

The GIANTS currently hold four first round draft picks but will spend some time in the coming weeks discussing what can be done to strengthen the draft position even further.

The GIANTS hold a bounty of first round picks with 10, 13, 15, 20, 29, 52, 74, 88 able to be used on Draft night.

One avenue the club is sure to investigate is whether the GIANTS can move up the draft order by trading multiple picks.

“The draft is going to be critical,” said General Manager Football Jason McCartney.

“We will now look to what we can do and how we can manipulate our picks in the draft.

“We now have a better understanding of what the mechanics and numbers around the list sizes will be so we need to decide whether all of those picks go to the draft or whether part of our strategy is considering bringing in another player as a delisted free agent.

“There are a number of things we need to work through as we look to finalise our list for the 2021 season.”

Trading up the draft order is a move the GIANTS have used successfully in the past and did so in 2019 to secure Lachie Ash at pick four.

The exact details of the Draft are yet to be finalised with the AFL expected to announce plans in the coming weeks with the event scheduled to take place in the week of December 7.

It is likely to be done virtually from around the country rather than in one venue like previous years.
