The GIANTS’ next crop of superstars have arrived at the club to officially start their AFL journey less than 48 hours after their names were called out at the National Draft in Adelaide.
Four new draftees Jacob Hopper (pick 7), Matt Kennedy (pick 13), Harrison Himmelberg (pick 16) and Matt Flynn (pick 41) touched down in Sydney today.
Meet Jacob Hopper
Hitching a ride with Virgin Australia, the players boarded at Narrandera and Wagga Wagga airports with all their favourite possessions in tow.
The draftees spent their first day undergoing medical tests, touring the facility, moving into their lockers and meeting key staff around the club.
They also have a dinner date scheduled tonight with coach Leon Cameron who will formally welcome them to the GIANTS.
Meet Matt Kennedy
All four of the young-guns came through the ranks of the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy and attracted bids from rival clubs on draft night.
Player Welfare Manager Dylan Addison said it was an exciting time for the draftees but the hard work is still ahead of them.
Meet Harry Himmelberg
“I met the boys at the airport earlier and they could hardly contain their excitement,” Addison said.
“They’re all great mates and get on really well together so that friendship will hold them in good stead when they settle into a new city.
“It’s been a whirlwind few days for the draftees but it won’t take them long to get into the swing of a routine.
“We want them to acclimatise as quickly as possible so they can spend all their energy concentrating on training and improving over the summer.”
The draftees will officially meet their new teammates tomorrow before hitting the track for the first time.
