Josh Kelly and Rory Lobb are wait-and-see propositions to face Brisbane on Saturday at Spotless Stadium.
Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said much would hinge on Wednesday’s main training session.
“Josh’s carried a bit of groin soreness, he carried a bit last year and a bit at the start of pre-season but got a really good pre-season behind him,” he said.
“It’s just started to creep up on us again… we’re just taking him back a little bit. It’s a long season, we’re just taking it session by session and week to week.”
Both Kelly and Lobb (bone bruising) have missed the past fortnight and will be itching to return to the
“That’s all it was for Rory really, a bit of bone bruising which is really good news,” Joyce said.
“He’s coming along really well. He ran on the weekend, will train tomorrow and then we’ll see how he goes after that.
“We look at whether he can get through the session but also how he pulls up
Nick Haynes (corked thigh) and Zac Langdon (hand) are both expected to put their hands up to play when the GIANTS return to Spotless Stadium for the first time this season on Saturday.
“Nick copped a corked thigh, he battled through well and played his role for the team,
"He’s presented really well so he’ll probably have a run tomorrow and hopefully be available for this weekend.
“Zac trained really strongly at the back end of last week, it’s a sore hand that he’s got and he’s a tough customer.
“He got through training yesterday, I expect him to do well tomorrow and put his hand up for selection.”
In exciting news, Matt Buntine will return from almost a year on the sidelines and line up for the GIANTS in the NEAFL on Saturday.
Buntine ruptured his ACL in April last year and it’s been a painstaking recovery for the 24-year-old.
Buntine will be joined in his return by young GIANTS draftee Brent Daniels who is yet to pull on the orange and charcoal after post-Christmas knee surgery. The classy small forward was selected at pick 27 in the most recent NAB AFL Draft.
GIANTS fans can watch the NEAFL side in action when they take on the Brisbane Lions Reserves as a curtain-raiser to Saturday’s main game at Spotless Stadium.
