Toby Greene will captain the GIANTS for a third successive season in 2025 alongside a leadership group featuring two new faces.
First appointed sole captain in 2023 under new coach Adam Kingsley, Greene will continue his brilliant rein as GIANTS skipper throughout the 2025 AFL season.
A ferocious leader who wears his heart on his sleeve, Greene has established himself as one of the best leaders in the game, exemplified by being named the All-Australian captain in 2023.
The superstar forward will again be aided by a pair of brilliant vice-captains, with Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly remaining in their roles for a third straight season.
Young guns Tom Green, Sam Taylor and Connor Idun also remain in the leadership group for a third straight year, while star duo Brent Daniels and Jack Buckley join the group for the first time.
Fresh off a brilliant 2024 campaign, Daniels joins the leadership group following a career-best season which saw the 25-year-old named in the All-Australian squad for the first time.
Establishing himself as one of the competition’s best small forwards, Daniels finished number one in the AFL for goal assists in 2024 as well as kicking 23 majors of his own.
Buckley also joins the leadership group for the first time following a starring 2024 season.
Now one of the competition’s best key defenders, Buckley originally joined the GIANTS as a forward after being picked up as a Category B Rookie ahead of the 2018 AFL season.
Forced to miss over 600 days of football early in his career following an ACL injury, Buckley returned to the GIANTS lineup in 2023 with a breakout season and has since gone on to cement himself as one of the AFL’s most reliable key defenders.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it was great to have some consistency in the club’s leadership group while also adding some fresh new voices.
“It was a no-brainer for Toby to be appointed captain again as we see him as the perfect person to continue to lead this club,” McCartney said.
“He was already seen as one of the best players in the competition but over the last two years he’s really shown to also be one of the best leaders in the game and we’re rapt to have him as our captain again in 2025.
“Likewise, it’s great to have Stephen and Josh remain as vice-captains as we know they’ll continue to help lead the club in an exemplary manner as they have done ever since walking through the doors.
“It’s also fantastic to have Tom, Sam, and Connor remain in the group as those three continue to emerge as brilliant young leaders.
“Then we’re thrilled to welcome both Brent and Jack to the leadership group for the first time. They’ve both demonstrated strong leadership qualities over a number of years and it’s great to see them both join the group.
“Our leadership group has a great blend of experience and youth and we know that with this group leading the way we’re in a brilliant position to attack the 2025 season.”
The GIANTS open their 2025 AFL campaign in a blockbuster Opening Round clash with Collingwood at ENGIE Stadium on Sunday, March 9 at 3:20pm.
