The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will face AFL powerhouse Hawthorn in their first game at Spotless Stadium in 2016.

The twilight match against the reigning premiers will take place in round 6 on Saturday, April 30 at 4.35pm.

Last time they met it was the GIANTS who upset Hawthorn, running away to a 10-point win in front of 13,556 fans, the third-largest crowd ever seen at Spotless Stadium.

GIANTS key forward Jeremy Cameron was the star of the show kicking seven goals while co-captain Callan Ward, Ryan Griffen and Stephen Coniglio led the midfield charge.

“It’s fantastic that we get to have our first home match in Sydney against the triple reigning premiers,” GIANTS Coach Leon Cameron told the Daily Telegraph.

“With players like Hodge, Rioli, Roughead, Lewis and Mitchell just to name a few, it’s the perfect way for us to open our season at Spotless Stadium.

“Hawthorn are clearly one of the greatest teams of the modern era and our fans at Spotless Stadium are sure to turn out in big numbers to see this champion team.”

The GIANTS will open their 2016 campaign against Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday, March 26.

It was announced on Tuesday that the GIANTS will play the Western Bulldogs (StarTrack Oval Canberra), Sydney Swans (Drummoyne) and Brisbane Lions (Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast) in the 2016 NAB Challenge.

The entire AFL fixture will be released on Thursday, October 29 with full coverage on gwsgiants.com.au.
