The GIANTS are the youngest AFL club and have championed diversity and inclusion since our establishment in 2010. We are dedicated to promoting gender equality and ensuring our workforce mirrors the diverse communities we represent, while also supporting business strategy by attracting top talent and fostering a variety of perspectives. We are proud of our diverse workforce, including the invaluable impact our women have on all areas of the club.

To reinforce our commitment to equality, the club has policies, processes, values, and training in place to ensure that recruitment and salary decisions are based on merit, experience, and performance; and to ensure that our workplace is a safe, inclusive and flexible environment for all.

Highlighting the club’s commitment to the advancement of women, during the reporting period:

  • The GIANTS had high levels of female representation in key management positions (more than double the industry average).
  • We recruited more women than men into manager roles.
  • We introduced a domestic violence leave policy enabling victims access to unlimited leave and ongoing support.

The report reveals GIANTS gender-pay gap for total remuneration is 39.2 per cent (representing the difference in average earnings between women and men in the workforce). While this is consistent with industry-wide results, we remain committed to further reducing the gender pay gap.

We acknowledge there are structural factors unique to our industry that impact the GIANTS gender pay gap. In particular, the AFLW competition is in its infancy when compared to the long-established AFL competition. As such:

  • There is a disparity between the salaries of male and female players (primarily driven by the industry-wide Collective Bargaining Agreement agreed by all players with the Australian Football League); and
  • There is a historical tendency to see higher numbers of men employed on higher salaries across the men’s program.

Nevertheless, we are proud to be an AFLW foundation club. We remain committed to employing more women across our club, including across our men's and women's football programs, and fostering our established culture that is defined by equality, inclusivity and respect.
