The 2016 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture is taking shape with Port Adelaide confirmed as the GIANTS opponent at StarTrack Oval, Canberra in Round 4.

The match on Sunday, April 17 at 1.10pm will see the Power return to the ACT for the first time since Round 7, 2014.

Despite a late charge in 2015 where they won their final four games, the Power missed out on the finals to finish ninth.

With the addition of Charlie Dixon from Gold Coast and Melbourne’s Jimmy Toumpas in the recent trade period, Port will be desperate to climb back into the top eight in 2016.

Port Adelaide are expected to be the only non-Victorian team to play the GIANTS in the nation’s capital in 2016.

The Western Bulldogs, who made the finals in 2015, were on Tuesday announced as opening their NAB Challenge series against the GIANTS in Canberra on Thursday, February 25 under lights at StarTrack Oval.

It’s expected the GIANTS two other opponents for the regular season in Canberra will be big Victorian clubs.

This comes after the huge turn out at StarTrack Oval Canberra in Round 17, 2015 when GIANTS match against Geelong was a sell out.

With the GIANTS Sydney home ground Spotless Stadium unavailable early in the season due to the Royal Easter show, it’s expected that Canberra-based fans will get plenty of opportunities to see their favourite GIANTS players up-close in the early rounds.

With former Geelong forward Steve Johnson joining the likes of Heath Shaw, Jeremy Cameron, Callan Ward and Ryan Griffen – 2016 is shaping as a big year for the GIANTS.

The entire AFL fixture will be released on Thursday, October 29 with full coverage on gwsgiants.com.au.
