Star forward Toby Greene has signed a six-year contract extension that will tie him to the GIANTS until the end of 2024.
Out of contract at season’s end, Greene’s new deal is the longest in the club’s history and reflects the esteem the 24-year-old is held in as he enters his seventh season in the AFL competition.
List Manager Jason McCartney said he’s thrilled to secure the services of the talented GIANT long-term.
“As one of the club’s original draftees back in 2011, this deal should see Toby become the first player to play his entire career as a GIANT,” he said.
“As we all know, Toby is an outstanding player and it’s fantastic that he’s committed to the club for another six seasons.
“We all see what Toby produces on-field but it’s his impact around the club that makes him one of a kind.
“He’s the heart and soul of our footy club and it’s a really exciting time for our club, members and fans.”
The 2016 Virgin Australia All Australian and Kevin Sheedy Medallist was drafted to the GIANTS at pick 11 in the club’s inaugural NAB AFL Draft.
After collecting more disposals than any 18-year-old in the history of the game in his first season, Greene has gone from strength-to-strength to establish himself as one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition.
Since debuting in the club’s first-ever game in round one, 2012, he’s represented the GIANTS 117 times, kicking a career-high 45 goals last season.
Greene said he had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.
“I arrived here when I was 18 and these are the boys I’ve grown up with,” he said.
“The club is like my family, Sydney is my home and there’s no doubt this is where I want to play footy.
“We’ve been on a pretty unique journey together and that hasn’t finished yet. We have plenty to improve on, heaps more to learn and we’re all in it together.”
Greene’s re-signing was announced at the club on Tuesday as the GIANTS also launched a significant new partnership with innovative Western Sydney company Bingo Industries.
The exciting announcements come off the back of young draftee Aiden Bonar extending his contract for a further two seasons over the weekend with just two weeks until round one of the premiership season when the GIANTS take on the Western Bulldogs at UNSW Canberra Oval on March 25.
