The GIANTS’ first pick in last year’s NAB AFL Draft, Aiden Bonar, has put pen to paper for another two years on the eve of his debut season.
On a two-year deal initially, the GIANTS have moved quickly to secure the exciting young prospect until at least the end of 2021.
Bonar said he had no hesitation extending his contract.
“Coming here, it’s a great family club and all the staff and the players really made me feel comfortable, so it was an easy decision at the end of the day,” he said.
“I’ve settled in fairly easily with all the other first-year players. We’ve been going out to see some of the sights of Sydney and settling in that way, so it’s been good.
“Mum and Dad were really happy and stoked for me and they’re happy to see me at the GIANTS for at least two more years.”
Bonar was the GIANTS’ first selection in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, taken at selection 11.
The 18-year-old featured for the GIANTS in the inaugural AFLX tournament last month and also impressed in a practice match against the Swans last month.
A powerfully built, versatile midfielder, Bonar overcame two ACL injuries during his junior career to return to the field at the end of last season and rocket up the draft order.

GIANTS List Manager Jason McCartney said re-signing the draftee so early was a great endorsement of the club.
“Aiden has settled in really well to our football club and we’re delighted to extend his contract only months after he walked through the doors,” said McCartney.
“He’s a really impressive young man who hasn’t put a foot wrong in his first pre-season.
“Like what happened last year when Tim Taranto, Will Setterfield and Harry Perryman re-signed early in their debut year, this gives Aiden the security and stability of knowing that we see him as a long-term player for our football club.
“It’s exciting news for the club and our fans and we all look forward to seeing Aiden continue to grow at the GIANTS.”
The GIANTS take on the Swans in their final JLT Community Series match at Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday evening.
The two sides’ NEAFL teams will also play off in a practice match earlier in the day.
The GIANTS take on the Western Bulldogs in round one at UNSW Canberra Oval on Sunday, March 25.
