The GIANTS will celebrate Pride Round as they unveil their 2024 Pride Jumper in a Sunday twilight clash with the Crows at Henson Park.
Match Information:
GIANTS v Crows
Sunday, October 13 at 5:05pm
Henson Park | Gadigal and Wangal Country
State of Play:
The GIANTS will cap off a hectic two-week schedule when they host the Crows in celebration of Pride Round at Henson Park on Sunday.
In what will be their fourth game in 15 days, the GIANTS will be looking for consistency across four quarters as they aim to address their recent slow starts in Sunday’s clash at Henson Park.
While unable to secure the four points across the last month, the GIANTS continue to remain in games but have often left their run too late as they are left to rue their poor first halves.
The common theme was prevalent once again in Tuesday’s clash with the Saints in Frankston, with the GIANTS outscored five goals to none in the first half before responding by winning the second half.
Former skipper Alicia Eva sparked the GIANTS with back-to-back goals in the third term to kick-start a much-improved second half, but ultimately the slow start cost the GIANTS yet again as the home side registered a 7.7 (49) to 2.3 (15) win.
Midfield stars Alyce Parker (30 disposals, eight tackles and 10 clearances) and new skipper Bec Beeson (24 disposals, six tackles) led the way once again and will look to continue their brilliant seasons against the Crows on Sunday. Meanwhile young gun Kaitlyn Srhoj also continued her starring debut season with another strong performance from the 19-year-old midfielder.
With the GIANTS to unveil their 2024 Pride Jumper in celebration of Pride Round against the Crows, the side will be hoping to celebrate the occasion with a win on Sunday.
The Opposition:
The Crows will enter Sunday’s twilight clash looking to get their season back on track after Melbourne pulled off one of the upsets of the season on Wednesday night by defeating the three-time premiers by two points.
The Crows led all stats across the four quarters but struggled with goal inaccuracy against the Demons, taking 10 marks inside 50 to the Melbourne’s two but only managed one goal from their opportunities.
Wednesday night’s shock loss was just Adelaide’s second of the season, after going down to last year’s premiers, the Lions, also by two points in a tight tussle back in round five.
The Crows currently sit in fifth position with five wins and two losses.
Recent History:
The two inaugural AFLW sides have faced off all in all eight seasons to date, but it’s the three-time premiers that hold the advantage in the head-to-head.
The most recent encounter was in round four last year with the Crows victorious by 69 points at Manuka Oval. The Crows’ Ebony Marinoff was dominant through the middle with 40 touches, while Eloise Jones kicked four goals.
The GIANTS’ last win over the Crows was back in 2020, with the five-point victory securing the GIANTS their first finals berth.
In The Mix:
The GIANTS could be bolstered by two huge inclusions for Sunday’s game, with star key position duo Izzy Huntington (knee soreness) and Tarni Evans (lower leg) both tests for Sunday’s game after missing Tuesday’s game against the Saints.
Others to come into consideration will be Courtney Murphy and Caitlin Miller who were emergencies last week.
Team Selection:
The GIANTS will name their squad to take on the Crows at 6:20pm on Thursday and then the final team at 5pm on Friday at gwsgiants.com.au.
Where to Watch:
The GIANTS’ round seven clash with the Crows will be shown live on Fox Footy and Kayo nationally and on 7Mate in NSW and the ACT from 5pm on Sunday.
