Jesse Hogan will join off-season recruit Jake Stringer on the sidelines this weekend, with the star duo both set to miss the Opening Round clash.

Hogan suffered a broken thumb after jamming his thumb in a door following the AAMI Community Series loss to Carlton.

The 2024 Coleman Medallist is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks but will be assessed on a week-to-week basis.

After returning to full training last week following illness, Stringer suffered a low-grade hamstring strain in the club’s VFL practice match on Saturday.

After consultation with the GIANTS’ medical team, the 30-year-old is aiming to be available to make his club debut in round three when the GIANTS travel to Launceston.

Following medical appointments last week, the GIANTS now have updated timelines for both Ryan Angwin (ankle) and Josh Fahey (foot), with the pair set to be sidelined for five weeks.

Meanwhile, Tom Green (calf) has returned to running and will be pushing for an early return in round one.

After being ruled out with illness for last week’s AAMI Community Series match in Canberra, ruckman Kieren Briggs has been cleared for the blockbuster Opening Round clash this Sunday.

Callum Brown is also available for selection after overcoming his hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Gothard has been listed as a test, following an ankle sprain nearly a fortnight ago.

The GIANTS open their 2025 season this Sunday, when they host the Magpies at ENGIE Stadium at 3:20pm.
