The GIANTS’ media team are proud to release a new documentary, charting the career and final season of GIANT #1 and inaugural co-captain Phil Davis.
Tasked with leading the GIANTS at just 21-years-old, Davis was destined to become an all-time great. However, not everything went to plan.
Suffering injuries that threatened to end his career in its prime, Phil grapples with retirement and looks back on his career from Crow to co-captain and the legacy he leaves on the club, and the game.
The documentary was produced by GIANTS Media’s Jacob Gaynor and edited by Will Helm, featuring archival footage from across Davis’ career at the club, including footage from Nick Haynes’ 2021 documentary, Rise of the GIANTS.
Off the back of the release of the documentary, GIANTS fans are invited to thank Davis, who will be honoured at Saturday’s home game at ENGIE Stadium (formerly GIANTS Stadium) against the Kangaroos.
Playing 192 games across the GIANTS and the Crows, Davis called time on his career at the end of last season following 15 seasons at the elite level.

GIANTS CEO David Matthews acknowledged the huge contribution Davis has made to the GIANTS.
“Phil’s contribution to the club is hard to put into words,” Mr Matthews said.
“Being named an inaugural captain of an AFL club is no easy task and from the get-go Phil showed through his character and his talent that we could not have chosen a better person to help lead the club.
“From day one we needed strong people to set an example and build a great culture at the club, and along with the help of Callan Ward, Phil did just that to an extremely high standard.
“As well as his leadership and his ability to galvanise the group, we should never underestimate the high quality of football Phil played. Having gone toe to toe with the best key forwards of this generation- and often beating them- his talent and especially courage can never be doubted after coming back from a life-threatening kidney injury.
“The documentary is a fantastic reflection of the impact he has had at our club and Saturday provides us a great opportunity to thank Phil for everything he’s done for the GIANTS. We hope to see the Orange Army as its strongest on Saturday to honour a legend of the GIANTS.”
The GIANTS take on North Melbourne on Saturday at 4:35pm at ENGIE Stadium (formerly GIANTS Stadium).
Tickets include entry and return public transport while the match will feature FREE Easter Show rides from when gates open plus stick around for kick-to-kick and an on-field signing session with the players.
