Tough midfielder Emily Goodsir has been upgraded to the GIANTS’ list just seven months after giving birth to her first son.
Goodsir, 30, played 10 games for the GIANTS across the 2020 and 2021 NAB AFLW seasons before moving to the inactive list ahead of season six, earlier this year.
Son, Cruz, was born in February this year with Goodsir returning to part-time training with the GIANTS over recent months.
With defender Pepa Randall moving to the inactive list after her ACL injury in round two, a list spot opened up and Goodsir has been named as an emergency for Saturday’s match against Carlton at Henson Park.
Coach Cam Bernasconi said it was fantastic to welcome Goodsir back.
“We’re so pleased to have the opportunity for Em to return to the field, probably ahead of what we initially discussed,” Bernasconi said.
“As we all know, she’s a hard and tough midfielder who will add experience to our very young side.
“She’s always been a tough competitor and a hard trainer but it’s still a wonderful effort for her to be ready to return to AFLW level just seven months after giving birth.
“We can’t wait to welcome the number one jumper back on the field in due course.”
