An impressive endurance athlete hailing from Tathra on the NSW South Coast, Tarni Evans has quickly cemented herself as one of the competition’s best defenders since being taken with pick nine by the GIANTS in the 2020 AFLW Draft. Standing at 178cm tall, Evans can play at either end of the ground, but it is down back where the young star has excelled. After injury restricted her to just two games in season six, Evans bounced back to full fitness and by the conclusion of the 2023 season had strung together 20 consecutive games to establish herself as a key figure in the GIANTS’ line-up. One of the competition’s most damaging rebounding and intercept defenders, Evans has been named in the AFL Players’ Association AFLW 22Under22 team in each of the last two seasons. Evans was elevated to the GIANTS’ leadership group for the 2023 season and remained in the group for the 2024 campaign after once again being voted in by her coaches and teammates.
