A trio of the GIANTS’ most exciting young talent – Zarlie Goldsworthy, Tarni Evans and Georgia Garnett – have all committed to the GIANTS on multi-year contracts.
Headlining the trio is the signature of the 2023 AFLW Rising Star, Zarlie Goldsworthy, who is staying in orange and charcoal until at least the end of 2027 after signing on for four more years.
The dynamic goal kicking midfielder has quickly established herself as one of the brightest stars of the game.
The 19-year-old created history on multiple occasions during a breakout 2023 season, including becoming the youngest ever club champion, taking out the Gabrielle Trainor Medal.
She finished her second year in the competition as the GIANTS’ leading goalkicker alongside averages of 18.3 disposals, 6,6 tackles and 2.1 clearances across her 10 games.
A tough and skilful player with poise and class beyond her years, Goldsworthy was also named in the AFLPA’s 22 under 22 side and the AFLW All-Australian squad.
Fellow All-Australian squad member Tarni Evans has also extended her time at the GIANTS, with the 2020 draftee also signing on for another four seasons.
A consistent and reliable utility, Evans has begun to establish herself as one of the competition’s premiere defenders.
The 21-year-old led the entire competition for rebound 50’s per game in 2023 and averaged 16.3 disposals and 5.7 intercept possessions.
The dashing defender was recognised alongside Goldsworthy in this year's 22under22 side following another solid season.
A natural leader, Evans has also been earmarked as a future leader of the club, with the Queanbeyan product added to the GIANTS’ leadership group in 2023.
Another local product will continue to call the GIANTS home, with Georgia Garnett also remaining in orange and charcoal.
The Western Sydney junior turned down interest from other clubs to commit to the GIANTS for another four years.
Garnett was drafted to the club in 2019 from the East Coast Eagles, making her debut in 2021.
Originally playing in the GIANTS’ lineup as a defender, the 22-year-old found a new love for the game with a resurgence in a new-look role in the forward line.
After a breakout season seven in 2022, Garnett has been flagged as one of the most promising key forwards in the competition and in 2023 was also added to the GIANTS’ leadership group.
A lively and popular member of the club, teammates, members and fans will be glad to hear she’s sticking around.
GIANTS Executive General Manager Football Strategy and Operations Briana Harvey said securing the trio’s signatures was a great coup for the future of the program.
“We’re thrilled to secure the long-term commit from this trio,” Harvey said.
“The signing of this young trio helps set the foundations for what is to come from this young side and will all play an integral role of where we want to take this team in the near future.
“Zarlie has had a sensational start to her AFLW career and to see the style of footy she plays after just two years in this environment is impressive and certainly makes for an exciting future.
“Tarni is one of the most consistent players on our list and every year takes her game to a new level. She’s a quiet achiever who just gets stuck in, works hard, and is highly valued by her teammates.
“Georgia’s shown her exciting potential since cementing her spot in the side over the past two seasons. Not only she is a talented footballer but is an extremely popular member of the team and is key to the culture that has been created at this club.
“Each one of them represents what it means to be a GIANTS AFLW player so we’re thrilled to have them remain at the club and hopefully be a key part of the success that we see on the horizon.”
