GIANTS young guns Zarlie Goldsworthy and Tarni Evans have been recognised once again as two of the brightest young stars in the competition after being named in the AFL Players’ Association 2024 AFLW 22Under22 team.

Both named on the half-forward flank, Evans and Goldsworthy are no strangers to the 22Under 22 honour, with Evans having now made the side in three straight seasons, while Goldsworthy now has back-to-back honours after her debut selection in last year’s side.

Selected each year, the annual honour recognises the competition’s best 22 players aged 22 and under across each AFLW season.

With an original squad of 44 players selected by an AFLW panel, the public are then given the power to select the final team of 22, with Goldsworthy and Evans both voted into the final side full of the league’s best young talent.

Spending most of her time as a deep forward in 2024, Goldsworthy had another strong campaign to follow up from last year’s record-breaking season which saw her win both the AFLW Rising Star Award and become the GIANTS’ youngest ever club champion.

One of the competition’s most dynamic players and having only just recently turned 20, Goldsworthy finished the 2024 season as the GIANTS’ leading goalkicker for a second straight season to go along with averages of 15 disposals, six tackles and 2.8 clearances per game.

Goldsworthy's starring season saw her recently finish second at last week’s Gabrielle Trainor Medal – making it two top two finishes before the age of 20.

Meanwhile, Evans also showed once again that she is one of the league’s most promising young talents in 2024, with the 22-year-old starring in both attack and defence across the season to earn her place in this year’s 22Under22 team.

Making a name for herself as one of the league’s most exciting young defenders in recent seasons, Evans spent most of the 2024 campaign up forward where she provided a brilliant target ahead of the footy to finish second on the GIANTS’ goalkicking tally behind only Goldsworthy.

Possessing some of the best hands in the league and poise beyond her years, Evans was recognised for another strong campaign as she continues to emerge as one of the GIANTS’ most important and promising players.
