Speedy defender Zac Williams and former captain Callan Ward could be in line to take on the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday.
Williams will be available for selection after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in round four.
GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball said Williams had proved his fitness and now it was a matter of where the coaches wanted him to play.
“Zac is available to play and had a clearance session on the weekend. He got through that really well and now is training with the main group this week and is available for selection this weekend,” said Ball.
Ward has made a quicker than anticipated recovery from a medial ligament strain in his right knee that was sustained in round six.
Originally anticipated to sidelined the courageous midfielder for four to six weeks, Ward just has to get though training this week to put his hand up to play.
“Wardy has done really well. He’s done everything we could ask of him and he’s ticked all the boxes off and performed really well.
“We also expect him to be available this weekend.”
Ruckman Shane Mumford is also available for selection having missed round eight with a neck injury.
Meanwhile, forward Daniel Lloyd has had surgery on a fractured finger that will cause him to miss approximately three weeks.
Lloyd returned from a concussion to play in the win over the Tigers and although he played out the game, the injury was assessed as needing surgery post-match.
“Unfortunately Daniel suffered a broken bone in his finger and he had an operation on Saturday and we’re expecting him to miss a couple of weeks.”
Defender Adam Kennedy, who has struggled to re-gain full fitness after hamstring tendon soreness, is back in full training and likely to line-up in Friday’s practice match against the Swans.
“We’re happy with where he’s at right now and he’s available for selection this weekend,” said Ball.
“We’ll probably go for some limited game time in the NEAFL just to get him used to game intensity and see how he progresses from there.”
The GIANTS take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium on Sunday with the team to be named at 6:20pm on Saturday night.
