The GIANTS are back on the training track and in flying form after a spectacular 64 point win over the Sydney Swans Reserves on Saturday.
The squad is now preparing to take on the Tuggeranong Hawks at Greenway Oval this Saturday July 30 at 2pm. Last time these two sides met was in April when the GIANTS defeated the Hawks by five goals.
Reporter, Jessica Sheedy spoke with GIANT #8 Jeremy Cameron in the lead up to this week’s match against Tuggeranong to find out how the team is feeling after a physical clash against the Swans last week and how they are preparing for Saturday.
Jezza, how are you feeling ahead of this week’s clash?
Everyone is really excited to play this week. It will be a good lead up to the game and we haven’t been down to Canberra for a while so it will be good to get down there and hopefully we can have another win.
Canberra sides haven’t proven to be as strong as some of the other teams you’ve faced in the NEAFL. Will that give you a chance to try something new against Tuggeranong on Saturday?
Obviously we will sit down during the week and see what kind of game plan we want to come up with. I think we will play our own game that we have been playing the last few weeks if its dry weather.
If it’s wet we will go to plan B, which involves a longer kicking style of football. So, it really depends on the conditions.
What will the side be focusing on at training this week?
I think we will be focusing on handling the ball better and not fumbling. Although it was wet, we did that quiet a lot last time so we are trying to get rid of that in our game.
We will continue to work on and improve our kicking and work hard on the little things. We will watch the tape of our game against the Swans this week and see what we did wrong and what we can work on.
What has the feeling among the playing group been like this week after defeating the Swans Reserves for the first time?
It was a great win for us on the weekend. We played really well against a side that has beaten us three times this year so everyone was really happy after the game.
We thought it was going to be a bit wet but it dried out and I thought we adjusted to the conditions well and played some good football throughout the day.
You personally performed in the best last week, kicking 4 goals, what have you been working on in your own game?
I wanted to focus on my leading patterns and making sure I held the ball, took some good marks and finish off with some goals and I was happy to be able to achieve that.
It’s good for the forward line to get as many goals as possible, I don’t think it matters who gets them but just as long as we get some goals and hopefully that will take us a long way to winning.
Hopefully a similar formula will mean that we have another win against Tuggeranong this week.
