After notching up their second win, the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will head north on the weekend to take on the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium.
It will be the third time that the two expansion clubs have met in 2012, with the GIANTS claiming victory in both the NAB Cup and at Manuka in Round 7.
GIANTS Co-Captain Callan Ward said that the while the weekend's victory was a fantastic result for the young club in Kevin Sheedy's 1000th game, they are already looking forward to taking on the SUNS on Saturday.
"Sheeds is a true champion of the game so to have him coaching is great for us. As a football club it was a great day all around," Ward said.
"The challenge now is to back that up against the Gold Coast. It would be great to win three against them so we're really looking forward to this weekend.
"Our goal is to just keep improving every week.
"If we can take small steps and just keep improving, win quarters and eventually win games, that's all we've been trying to do all year," he said.
NAB AFL Rising Star nominee, Stephen Coniglio also said that the young side was looking forward to the clash against the Gold Coast and hoped to continually improve as their inaugural AFL season comes to a close.
"Our game plan is slowly coming along and hopefully we can keep getting that one or two percent better.
"Over the next two weeks we've got the Gold Coast and Melbourne and they're both very winnable games.
"If we can play like we did against Port and have that kind of intensity in the first quarter then I think that we can shake a few teams up and hopefully get one or two more wins before the end of the season," he said.
