Greater Western Sydney GIANTS’ key forwards, Jonathon Patton and Jeremy Cameron have expressed their excitement about taking on the Sydney Swans in the second Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
Patton told the media that his body is feeling good after his second AFL match since returning from knee surgery in January.
“I’ve got my base fitness back but I’m still trying to work on it each week,” Patton said.
“SKODA Stadium is a lot smaller than the MCG so that was pretty tough on the weekend.”
The number one draft pick claimed that while he was disappointed to miss out on the 2012 season opener at ANZ Stadium, he is thrilled to be part of the young club’s second cross town clash.
“It was pretty tough to watch on in Round 1 but now that it’s finally here and I get to play my first Derby I’m very excited.
“The boys told me what all the hype was like in Round 1 and I got to be a part of it in some aspects but being out there on the field is going to be awesome.”
Joining Patton in the GIANTS forward line on Saturday night will be Rising Star nominee, Jeremy Cameron, who leads the club’s goal kicking tally with 21 for the season.
Cameron also expressed his excitement ahead of Saturday night’s match and said that the young team was continually improving and learning about each other’s game styles.
“Each week we are looking to get better and better and we can see ourselves really improving,” Cameron said.
“We are starting to get to know each other and how we play which is a big step.
“We want to put our best foot forward and we’re really looking forward to doing that.
“We’ve got a pretty strong team at the moment, a lot of guys have played five or ten games now so they’ve had a bit of AFL experience.
“Games like this, when your opposition is from the other side of town, are really good and really exciting games to be a part of.”
“I think everyone will lift; everyone is really excited about playing the Swans this week and really looking forward to it.”
