A tough weekend for Greater Western Sydney was capped off when an undermanned UWS GIANTS suffered a heavy defeat by the Brisbane Lions in their NEAFL match at Yeronga.
The Lions shot out of the blocks early, kicking seven goals in the opening term before running away with a 241 point win.
Despite the one sided scoreboard, there were some positives for the GIANTS, with Number One draft pick, Jonathon Patton again running strongly as he gains confidence in the comeback from a knee injury.
Patton looks to be gaining some momentum as he presses for senior selection was named in the GIANTS best for the second week in a row.
Mark Whiley was again impressive, whilst Shaun Edwards and Curtly Hampton had strong showings which will keep them in the thoughts of selectors having already shown some promising signs in the senior ranks this year.
Another member of the GIANTS young brigade, Nick Haynes followed up his impressive display last week against the Suns with another solid outing.
Haynes should take confidence by the fact that he has seen several of the GIANTS draft picks excel in the senior ranks this season, and with continued strong performances will also get his chance at senior level.
Slater & Gordon GIANTS Academy member and Dubbo product, Mitchell Hailey played his first game for the GIANTS as the club continues to provide opportunities for young talent to gain experience in the NEAFL ranks.
The win takes the Lions to third place on the ladder in the Northern Conference ladder whilst the loss means the GIANTS drop to sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
The GIANTS will hope to bounce back strong next week when they take on the Sydney Hills Eagles at Bruce Purser Oval in Kellyville.
