The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS, welcome today’s announcement that the AFL has successfully reached a broadcast agreement with the Seven Network, Foxtel and Telstra, which will substantially increase access to live AFL content in NSW and the ACT.
As a new club in an expansion market, the GWS GIANTS recognise the importance of providing increased live content across all platforms to our growing number of AFL fans across Australia.
The club applauds the efforts of the AFL and the broadcasters to reach a deal which will provide improved access to all supporters at this critical time in the code’s expansion.
In NSW and the ACT:
All 42 matches involving the GWS Giants and the Sydney Swans will be broadcast on free to air television, either live or on delay.
All home matches will be broadcast near live on free to air and live from Fox Sports on Foxtel and Austar.
A minimum of four matches per week to be broadcast on free to air, with all matches to be shown live.
Every match of every week through the premiership season, as well as all matches through the Toyota AFL Finals Series, will be available live on Telstra’s mobile platform.
All nine matches per week live from FOX Sports on Foxtel and Austar
No matches lost to blackspots on Saturdays or Sundays, with all matches broadcast live into the state from Fox Sports on Foxtel and Austar.
GWS Giants CEO Dale Holmes applauded the AFL and its broadcast partners’ vision in ensuring improved access to live AFL content in this expanding market.
“This is a significant step for AFL fans in NSW and the ACT. The GWS GIANTS congratulate the AFL on the successful negotiation of these rights, increasing the amount of AFL games broadcast in NSW and the ACT significantly over the next five years.”
“The GWS GIANTS will enter the competition when these rights commence and as a Club we are thrilled that it will provide our sponsors with the increased exposure nationally.
“By removing black spots where fans previously had limited access to some games, and increasing the number of live matches available, this means more AFL for all supporters”.
“It’s essential for the growth of the game in expansions markets like Greater Western Sydney that we continue to provide greater access to AFL,” Holmes said.
