Both the GIANTS and Melbourne will be desperate for their first win of the 2013 season at the MCG on Sunday as competition for senior selection becomes fierce.
All eyes will be on the GIANTS selection panel today with a number of youngsters pushing for their place in the 22. UWS GIANTS Coach Brett Hand has praised the efforts of his NEAFL side who defeated Ainlsie by 77-points on the weekend.
Hand said that a number of GIANTS have put their hand up for selection including Riverina recruit Anthony Miles, tall utility Sam Frost and defender Nick Haynes.
"Anthony Miles has had a really solid three games, he just needs to wait for his time and keep doing what he does. He leads from the front, gets the hard ball and gets the clearances," said Hand.
"I expect him to get a run in the coming weeks.
"Nick Haynes has had an interrupted start to the season with injury. Last week he had nine intercept marks and 28 possessions. He's starting to stake his claim for a spot.
"Sam Frost continues to impress with his run, energy and spoiling efforts down back and puts on a lot of pressure when he plays up forward," he said.
Hand was also thrilled with Wednesday's announcement that Irishman Setanta O'hAilpin will return to the GIANTS squad after being sidelined with an ACL injury in Round 6, 2012.
"Setanta bagged five last week and it will be great to see him come back in this week after almost twelve months of rehab.
"His leadership and experience is valuable for us," he said.
