GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy has hit back at Paul Roos after the former Swans coach criticised the Battle of the Bridge.

Sheedy spoke to the media in his post-match press conference after Saturday's Battle of the Bridge.

In a newspaper column, Roos, who retired at the end of 2010, said Swans fans would "not fall for the slogan" which suggested it was only a team for eastern Sydney.

"There is much hype in Sydney about the GIANTS, the majority of it generated by the GIANTS themselves," Roos wrote. "Kevin Sheedy has certainly never been a coach to shy away from expectation.

"However the GIANTS must develop their own culture and supporters by increasing awareness of Australian Rules football throughout NSW.

"If all they do is try and poach Swans supporters and not grow the AFL pie the experiment will be a failure."

Asked about Roos' comments, Sheedy said: "There's nothing wrong with Battle of the Bridge.

"What do you want to do? Come up here and dance with your sister? Get a life, tell Roosy.

"We're not here to dance with him. We're here to go to war with him and it won't be long before we win.

"It's interesting the Swans have been here for 30 years which means they've got 1000 members every year. We've been here for one year and got 10,000 so we must be doing something right."
