The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS are pleased to announce small forward Liam Sumner has re-signed with the club until the end of 2016.
The 19-year-old is the latest GIANT to commit long term to the club after seven players re-signed earlier this season.
Sumner was taken with pick 10 in the 2011 draft and has played six games for the GIANTS and kicked five goals.
Sumner says it was an easy decision to stay at the GIANTS.
“I’m really happy to be playing my football here in Sydney. We have a great group of guys here at the GIANTS, and I love the lifestyle too," said Sumner.
“The playing group is working really hard and despite us not stringing four quarters together yet this season, I believe we have a big future and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
The re-signing of Sumner takes the number of players signed long term to the GIANTS beyond 20, including club leaders Callan Ward, Phil Davis and Tom Scully as well as Jon Patton, Jeremy Cameron, Stephen Coniglio, Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel, Tomas Bugg, Toby Greene, Curtly Hampton, Will Hoskin-Elliot and Dom Tyson.
Football Manager Graeme Allan welcomed Sumner's decision to commit to the club for another three years.
“To have a player of Liam’s calibre re-sign is a further show of faith in the GIANTS and how we are tracking in our second season in the AFL,” said Allan.
“We believe Liam’s got a bright future on the field, and he’s also a great person to have around the club so we’re pleased he’s committed for the next three years.”
The GIANTS play Essendon on Saturday at Etihad Stadium, before returning to Sydney for their first match of 2013 at Skoda Stadium on Sunday, May 12 against Adelaide.
