The GIANTS will step up their campaign for 2014 with a training camp in Noosa next week.

The entire football department of about 70 players and staff will fly to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow and will be based at the Noosa Tigers AFL club in Noosaville for the week.

Head Coach Leon Cameron said the training camp would round off the club’s pre-season before the Christmas break.

“Noosa is an excellent location for our training camp as it gives our players an opportunity to train hard in warm, tropical conditions and build on their fitness base as they prepare for the 2014 season,” he said.

“I would like to thank  our co-major partner Virgin Australia for flying us to the Sunshine Coast, the Noosa Tigers for the chance to use their facilities and the Sunshine Coast Council and Tourism Noosa for welcoming us.

“We are looking forward to getting up there and making the most of this opportunity to train hard but also get to know the local community.”

Fans will able to watch a training session on the main beach at 10am next Tuesday and meet the player afterwards. The club will also hold an open training session at Noosa Tigers from 8.30am and Wednesday and meet the players afterwards.

General Manager of Tourism Noosa, Damien Massingham said: “We are delighted to welcome the GIANTS to Noosa. Their visit highlights the desirability of Noosa being a great training destination for elite athletes.”

Earlier this year Noosa welcomed the British & Irish Lions who chose Noosa for their rest and recovery week as part of their international tour. Noosa also plays home to many international athletes who train there including Pete Jacobs and Darren and Jordan Mercer.

Cr Russell Green from the Sunshine Coast Council said: “The GIANTS training camp in is a great opportunity to showcase the region and the diversity of great facilities on offer.”
