Young forward Jonathon Patton will play in the GIANTS first intra-club match at Blacktown International Sportspark at 5pm tomorrow, Wednesday February 12.

Patton, who missed nearly all of last year with a knee injury, will be among 40 GIANTS players will take to the field for the club’s first hit out for 2014.

"Jon is coming back from that long-term injury," GIANTS Head Coach Leon Cameron said.

"He played a couple of quarters last Friday, but he'll roll out tomorrow and it's great for Jon in his progression back into AFL football to see him play three-to-four quarters."

The GIANTS star recruits vice-captain Heath Shaw, premiership ruckman Shane Mumford and dual premiership defender Josh Hunt will all play as will the top two draft picks Tom Boyd and Josh Kelly

"The expectation among our playing group is we're ready for 2014," Cameron declared.

"We're looking forward to rolling out tomorrow in our intra-club practice match and spots are going to be tough to win.

"When you've got players vying for spots, it makes for a very, very competitive performance come game day."

The GIANTS will open their NAB Challenge campaign against the Swans at StarTrack Oval, Canberra on Thursday February 20.

"The intra-club is going to be a great test to see where we're at," co-captain Callan Ward said.

"Obviously match fitness is a whole different level to pre-season training, so it's an important part of the year.

"Then we've got the three NAB Challenge games. We speak all pre-season about game plans and structures, this is the time to do it and it's great preparation for the new season."

Entry to the intra-club match is free with free parking, grandstand seating and plenty of cover available. The game will start at 5pm.

The entire match will be live streamed on the GIANTS website with commentary and special guests. Updates will also be posted on the GIANTS Twitter and Facebook page throughout the evening.

Fans attending the match can sign up as 2014 GIANTS member at the club’s membership marquee and also purchase merchandise. There will also be a BBQ and the AFL playground will be open for children.
