Number one draft pick Tom Boyd has been added to the GIANTS squad to face Carlton at Spotless Stadium on Sunday.

The 18-year-old forward is in contention to play his third AFL game after being named on an extended bench alongside defender Kristian Jaksch and Adam Kennedy, who was a late withdrawal from last week’s win over Brisbane.

“Boyd’s form has been very good at NEAFL level, kicking 10 goals in the past three games,” coach Leon Cameron said.

“Kennedy is coming back from a shoulder injury and Kristian Jaksch, who was unlucky to go out of the side, played really well against the Brisbane reserves and is pushing for senior selection again.”

The final team will be named at 5pm on Friday with All Australian forward Jeremy Cameron nursing a minor ankle injury heading heading into the game.

"Jeremy is probably about a 70-30 chance to play this week," the coach said earlier in the day.
 
"We have to remember he's only in his third year, so I don't want to wreck him. I'd love him to play this week, but if he's not right, he won't play."

It is the first time the GIANTS have faced the Blues on their home turf and Cameron and the GIANTS are looking to secure back to back wins for the first time in the club’s history.

“We’re looking forward to playing the Blues, obviously they’ve played some really good footy the past two weeks,” Cameron said.

“They pushed Geelong, were very unlucky to lose that game and they’ll be keen to bounce back on to the winners list.

“But we come home to Spotless Stadium with a great opportunity for us to continue on our really competitive form and take it right up to the Blues.”

The GIANTS play Carlton at Spotless Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1.10pm. The match will be shown live in NSW and the ACT on Fox Footy and 7mate.
