With the help of some new friends, Jeremy Cameron wants bigger and better things in 2014.
Cameron was the lone hand up forward for the GIANTS in 2013 but he is hoping the addition of three big names will spur the club on in 2014.
“We’ve got a few new people up there and hopefully we can just bond as a group and take that forward,” Cameron said.
2013 number one draft pick Tom Boyd is set to line up with Cameron in a forward line that will also include 2011 number one draft pick Jon Patton, who missed most of last season with a knee injury.
“Them two boys are training really well at the moment, they’re some big bodies - a lot bigger than me,” he said.
“It’s going to be good to have them down there at full-forward to change it up, it’s pretty exciting.”
They could also be joined by new GIANTS recruit Dylan Addison, who played 88 games for the Western Bulldogs.
“Definitely with Dyl Addison, with that experience coming into the side, he’s going to be huge for us.”
Last season was a breakout year for 20-year-old Cameron who became the first GIANTS player to be named in the All-Australian team, finished third in the Coleman Medal with 62 goals and took out the GIANTS’ Best and Fairest, the Kevin Sheedy Medal.
But Cameron isn’t resting on his laurels in 2014.
“It’s really stepped up from last year and the previous years before that,” he said of pre-season training.
“A lot of the boys have done really well and got a lot of time into their bodies and I think that will go a long way in helping us to win more games this year.”
Yesterday was a significant day for Cameron, whose local football club in his hometown of Dartmoor announced they are changing their name from the Swans to the GIANTS and adopting the club’s colours.
“That’s huge for me. I played my first football there, my first-ever game and a couple of seasons down there,” Cameron said.
“I love getting back and watching them. They were the Dartmoor Swans and now they’re the Dartmoor GIANTS. It’s going to be huge for them, they’re a great club and I’m sure everyone down there in the small town is very excited.
“They’ve supported me the whole way so it’s good to support them.”
