By The Numbers: Round 23 Preview
Take a look at all the stats that matter ahead of the GIANTS' final game of the season against the Bulldogs.
Treloar, with 524 possessions this year at 27.6 per game, is 15 short of the club best of 539 set by Toby Greene in 2012.
Treloar also could topple three single-season club records for most tackles, clearances and contested possessions held by co-captain Callan Ward, who will miss the final match of the season against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium due to injury.
Ward held each of these records prior to this year, and bettered them before he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Round 20.
He stretched his single-season tackle record from 100 in 2013 to 115, bumped his clearance best from 101 in 2012 to 130, and elevated his best contested possession count from 248 in 2012 to 250.
But Treloar, with 107 tackles, 118 clearances and 238 clearances, could topple each with a big game against the Dogs.
Oddly, the GIANTS will be the only AFL club this year without a player playing each of the 22 home-and-away rounds.
Adam Kennedy and Devon Smith, who have played 20 of the first 21 games so far, are set to top the list with 21 games for the season, while Treloar and Will Hoskin-Elliott are in line to join the injured Ward with 20.
Only three GIANTS players have played full seasons in the club’s short history – Phil Davis in 2012, and Jonathan Giles and Tim Mohr in 2013.
Smith will go into Sunday’s game needing five goals to finish on top of the club’s 2014 goal-kicking.
He has 25 goals so far this year and trails only the injured Jeremy Cameron (29).
Jon Patton also has kicked 25 goals this year before his tragic knee injury in Round 21.
Dylan Shiel will become the ninth GIANTS player to reach 50 games for the club behind Ward (61), Smith (58), Treloar (57), Tom Scully (55), Kennedy (54), Greene (52), Giles (51) and Cameron (51).
At 21 years 176 days Shiel will be the fifth-youngest 50-gamer behind Greene (20/138), Smith (21/34), Cameron (21/104) and Treloar (21/106).
Also on Sunday, key position utility Cam McCarthy will make his debut after being named in the side for the final game of the season.
He'll become the 65th GIANTS player and the eight GIANTS debutant of 2014 behind off-season recruits Shane Mumford, Heath Shaw, Dylan Addison, Josh Hunt and Jed Lamb, and draftees Josh Kelly, Tom Boyd and Rory Lobb.
At 19 McCarthy, taken at pick No.14 in the 2013 National Draft from South Fremantle, will become the 37th teenager to play for the GIANTS.
McCarthy becomes the 44th different GIANTS player this year. The club used 46 players in 2012 and 2013.
The GIANTS will take an 0-3 record against the Bulldogs into Sunday’s season-closer, which will be the first time they have played against them anywhere other than Canberra. In previous meetings they lost by 42 points in 2012, four points in 2013 and 27 points in Round 4 this year.
