Midfielder Toby Greene has pushed his claim for a senior recall after amassing 40 possessions in the UWS GIANTS’ 43-point win over Swans Reserves at the SCG.

Greene, who played his first game after serving a five match suspension, was rampant through the midfield and also kicked a goal in the final term.

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand sang Greene’s praises after the match.

“He had a lot of ball in the last quarter but the main thing that stood out was his work-rate and attack around stoppages,” Hand said.

“It’s obviously another level to play AFL but he has put his hand up for selection so we’ll have to wait and see what happens later in the week.”

Hand said Jono O’Rourke, Matt Buntine and Lachie Plowman also stood out, while Liam Sumner and Zac Williams provided important run from defence.

The UWS GIANTS went into the main break level with their cross-town rivals before kicking away and controlling play in the second half.  Hand said his side’s fitness was key to the four-quarter performance.

“Our GPS numbers are good at this stage of the year and our players are certainly running out games which is great to see,” he said.

“It’s also worth mentioning the players are sticking to the game plan and team structure which will hold us in good stead for the rest of the year.”

The UWS GIANTS sit second on the ladder equal on 36 points with ladder leader the Swans. They will play Brisbane Reserves this Saturday in a curtain raiser to the GIANTS v Adelaide match at Spotless Stadium, starting at 10.30am.
