Lachie Whitfield and Toby Greene have been named in the GIANTS’ team for Saturday’s 2019 Toyota AFL Grand Final against Richmond.
Whitfield has recovered from appendix surgery that forced him to miss the GIANTS’ preliminary final win over Collingwood, while inaugural GIANT Toby Greene returns after serving a one match suspension.
19 GIANTS will play in their first Grand Final, however there are three GIANTS who have played on the last Saturday of September.
Veteran defender Heath Shaw will play in his fourth Grand Final, while Shane Mumford and Matt de Boer will play in their second.
Both Shaw and Mumford are chasing their second premiership having won in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
Phil Davis, Adam Kennedy, Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene and Adam Tomlinson share a unique bond with all five having lined up in the GIANTS’ first-ever AFL game in round one, 2012 while fellow foundation GIANTS Nick Haynes and Sam Reid will also play.
Co-captain Davis is expected to line up at fullback against the Tigers and will lead the club in its first-ever Grand Final.
GIANTS Academy graduates Zac Williams, Harry Perryman, Harry Himmelberg, Jeremy Finlayson and Jacob Hopper will play as will fellow New South Wales product Daniel Lloyd.
First-year forward Bobby Hill and experienced defender Lachie Keeffe have been omitted but have been named as emergencies alongside Isaac Cumming and Zac Langdon.
