Adam Schneider has gone full circle by joining the GIANTS coaching staff as NEAFL coach.

Not only has he returned to the city where he won a premiership in 2005 with the Swans, but he’s revealed to GIANTS TV a special link he has to one of the club’s brightest young stars.

“I’ve got a bit of a connection having come from the Riverina and understanding what it’s like for a country boy like Harry Perryman - I played footy with his old man growing up so that shows my age for one,” said Schneider during his first week at the club.  

“I was the same as guys like Harry. I came from a population of 10 people to move to Sydney so it’s  a big jump. I’m looking forward to helping out the young guys and passing on what I’ve learnt in my time.”

Schneider is the only new face in the GIANTS coaching staff with Brad Miller moving from NEAFL coach to Assistant coach following Dean Brogan’s departure.

Since retiring at the end of 2015 after 228 AFL games at Sydney and St Kilda, Schneider got a taste of coaching with Beaumaris in the VAFA Premier Division. 

While there’s plenty to learn about his new environment, the 33-year-old has a number of strong relationships already at the GIANTS. 

He’s a premiership team mate of assistant coach Amon Buchanan and spent a number of years playing alongside midfield coach Lenny Hayes at St Kilda.

Having completed many pre-seasons himself during his extensive AFL career, Schneider is looking forward to the first to four year players returning to the club on Monday.

“Every pre-season is big and it’s always exciting to see who comes back and really puts their hand up day one to have a really solid pre-season.

That’s something I learnt over the journey, that if you do have a good three months leading into the season, your season is always better.”
