Cameron Accepts Suspension
GIANTS forward Jeremy Cameron will miss this Saturday’s game against Essendon at Spotless Stadium after accepting a one-match suspension.
Cameron was handed a one-match ban for rough conduct on Hawthorn forward Jarryd Roughead in Sunday’s narrow seven-point loss to the reigning premiers.
Cameron was charged with a Level One Engaging in Rough Conduct Offence and due to carry-over demerit points from a previous offence, Cameron’s one-match sanction had to remain at one-match, even with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points).
This was a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction.
He has an existing bad record of 93.75 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 218.75 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduced the sanction by 25 per cent to 164.06 demerit points and a one-match sanction.
Cameron and the club will not challenge the suspension.
In better news, scans on Sunday night cleared Cameron of a broken arm after he was injured in the collision with Roughead.
He played out the game but coach Leon Cameron said after the game there were concerns Cameron had a fracture in the arm.
The GIANTS take on Essendon on Saturday night at Spotless Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park in their first night game for the year with the first bounce at 7.40pm.
