With news today that defender Phil Davis has informed the Adelaide Crows of his intention to sign with the GWS GIANTS at the end of the 2011 season, GIANTS CEO Dale Holmes made the following statement:

The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS can today confirm that the club has held discussions with Phil Davis’ management regarding the potential for him to join the GIANTS from 2012.

“We discussed an opportunity with Phil’s management during the year however, that is all we are able to confirm at this stage of the season,” explained chief executive Dale Holmes.

“Under the AFL rules regarding uncontracted players, we are not in a position to officially agree to terms or come to any arrangement, agreement or understanding with Phil and his management team until after the conclusion of the season. In accordance with the AFL rules we will recommence those discussions at the end of the season with the hope of reaching a successful outcome.

“We have a very clear list development plan and have a commitment to our members, supporters and the club as a whole to secure the best talent that is available"

“Phil is an exciting young player with a big future ahead of him. We are delighted that he has indicated his interest in joining the GIANTS and believe he would be a very good fit for this club as we build a strong team for the future.”
