Young defender Caleb Marchbank re-injured his ankle in his NEAFL return on Saturday afternoon and will be sidelined once again.
After suffering a grade two syndesmotic injury in round two, Marchbank recovered well and was due to play three quarters in the WSU GIANTS’ NEAFL clash against the Suns reserves on Saturday.
He came on after quarter time and collected 21 touches before an innocuous movement re-injured the same ankle late in the game. No surgery is required and the injury is not as severe but the club will take a cautious approach with his return and the 19-year-old is expected to miss the next 5-7 weeks.
Young midfielder Jake Barrett was also injured in the NEAFL match, straining a hip flexor which will keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks.
Toby Greene is available for selection after missing the GIANTS’ win over the Suns with soreness.
Co-captain Phil Davis will spend another two weeks on the sidelines with the minor hamstring injury he picked up in the round seven match against Fremantle.
Will Hoskin-Elliott (quad), Aidan Corr (ankle) and Ryan Griffen (back) are all recovering on schedule and are 2-3 weeks away from selection.
Devon Smith will continue his rehabilitation after knee surgery last week and will be miss the next 7-9 weeks while Paul Ahern (ACL) and Jarrod Pickett (foot) continue their recovery from season-ending injuries.
