Opposition captains expect the GIANTS to go deep into September again and are tipping Jeremy Cameron to again be among the top goalkickers in the AFL in 2020.
In the annual AFL Captains’ Survey, captains from all 17 other clubs tipped the GIANTS, Richmond and the West Coast Eagles to again make finals.
Seven opposition captains also tipped the GIANTS to again make the Grand Final – the most votes for any team.
West Coast (five votes), Richmond (four) and Collingwood (two) were the other clubs nominated when captains were asked ‘Which other club is most likely to reach the Grand Final?’.
The captains’ votes for most likely to win the Brownlow were split between seven players. Carlton’s Patrick Cripps was deemed most likely by five captains, followed by Brisbane’s Lachie Neale (four) and Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe (three).
New GIANTS captain Stephen Coniglio was nominated by one captain as the player most likely to bring home the Brownlow.
Reigning Coleman Medallist Jeremy Cameron was tipped by five captains as the most likely to win the award in 2020, behind Richmond’s Tom Lynch (six).
GIANTS’ draftee Tom Green’s impressive pre-season caught the eye of some of the captains, with two nominating him as the most likely to win the NAB AFL Rising Star award. Gold Coast number-one draft pick Matt Rowell received the most votes with nine.
The annual AFL Captains’ Day took place in Melbourne on Tuesday, ahead of the AFL Opening Round, beginning Thursday, March 19.
