With round one just days away, AFL.com.au run their eyes across the GIANTS’ list and tip their best 22 for the 2016 season.

After two strong wins in the NAB Challenge and a host of promising performances from the club’s younger stocks, it’ll be an interesting selection dilemma when the team is named on Thursday night.

“Leon Cameron is going to have a tough job at selection this season and while most of the side picks itself, players have forced their way past teammates with standout performances in the NAB Challenge,” AFL.com.au reporter Adam Curley wrote.

“Wilson has edged Zac Williams for the second small defender role behind Heath Shaw, while Patfull's experience and bigger body gets him the nod over Caleb Marchbank.

“This 22 boasts plenty of versatility and run, and with James Stewart, Adam Kennedy, Matt Buntine and Will Hoskin-Elliott also in form, spots will be tight in 2016.

“Key forward Cam McCarthy wasn't considered as he continues his personal leave in Western Australia.”

The best 22 hasn't taken into account Jeremy Cameron's four-week suspension with the key forward eligible for selection from round five.

The GIANTS take on the Melbourne Demons at the MCG on Saturday from 1.40pm while the GIANTS’ reserves play Swans reserves in a trial match in Blacktown at 9.30am on the same day.
