The GIANTS' 100th match in the AFL will be against cross-town rivals the Sydney Swans at Spotless Stadium in round 12 in 2016.
The Sydney derby on Sunday June 12 (4.40pm) headlines an exciting season at Spotless Stadium for GIANTS fans which will also include matches against Hawthorn, Collingwood and the two Western Australia teams.
Triple-reigning premiers Hawthorn will open the season at Spotless Stadium, returning to Western Sydney in round 6 for a twilight match on April 30 (4.35pm).
The round 16 match on Saturday, July 9 (1.40pm) against Collingwood will be the first time the Magpies have played at Spotless Stadium since 2014.
Three teams will play at Spotless Stadium for the first time in 2016 with Gold Coast (round 8), Western Bulldogs (round 9) and Fremantle (round 22) all to debut at the AFL’s number one ranked venue.
Carlton, under new coach Brendan Bolton, will also return to Spotless Stadium for the third year in a row with the match likely to include a number of former GIANTS coming up against their old side.
GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said it’s an exciting fixture for fans in Sydney.
“We’re pleased to have big clubs like Hawthorn, Collingwood, the Swans, Carlton and West Coast coming to Western Sydney in 2016,” Mr Matthews said.
“Some obvious highlights next year include the home Derby against the Swans in Round 12 – which will also mark the club’s 100th game in the AFL – along with home games in Sydney against heavyweights like the reigning Premiers Hawthorn, Collingwood and the two Western Australia teams.
“We’re delighted to have five of our eight home games scheduled in the family-friendly time slot of 4.35pm on a Saturday afternoon. These twilight games are very popular with our members and fans as evidenced by the strong attendance growth in 2015.
"We’ve got a world class venue at Spotless Stadium with great family entertainment, as seen on the Virgin Australia stage throughout last season, so we encourage our fans and members to get along to as many home games next year as possible."
The GIANTS also host Geelong (round 2), Port Adelaide (round 4) and Richmond (round 17) at StarTrack Oval in Canberra.
The GIANTS play five games in Victoria with one game at the MCG to open the season, three at Etihad Stadium and one at Simonds Stadium in Geelong in Round 11.
The GIANTS will travel to Adelaide twice, once to Perth and play in Queensland (Brisbane and Gold Coast) twice. Every 2016 GIANTS game will be shown live in NSW and Canberra on 7mate and Fox Footy.
