As a young player coming into the AFL system it can often be difficult to earn the immediate respect of senior teammates.
However that's not the case for GIANTS draftee Jack Steele who has already impressed co-captain Callan Ward with his work on the training track this pre-season.
Steele, selected by Greater Western Sydney with pick No.24 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, was the first player selected from the ACT through the club's academy program.
"He's been so good this pre-season," Ward told the club's website on its Australia Post Community Camp in Canberra.
"For an 18-year-old, he's been training the house down.
"He's really, really strong. Around stoppages he's really good and he has really clean hands."
The Belconnen midfielder comes to the GIANTS with a notable junior resume, having earned All Australian honours at Under-18 level in 2014.
He averaged 20.7 disposals per game for NSW/ACT last season, while he also proved his worth by kicking six goals from his three matches.
Steele also played five NEAFL games for Belconnen where he averaged 24 disposals per game.
In one noteworthy performance, he collected 39 disposals, 24 contested possessions and 11 clearances.
"He's a guy that has a really good future ahead of him," Ward said.
