The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS will pay tribute to Kevin Sheedy when they play Essendon in the NAB Challenge at Spotless Stadium on Friday night.

Players from both clubs will form a guard of honour for Sheedy before the game, his last official match with the GIANTS.

After five years with the GIANTS, Sheedy is returning to Melbourne to take up a new role with Essendon, a team he coached to four premierships over 27 years before becoming the inaugural coach of the GIANTS.

This week Sheedy became the first Life Member of the GIANTS in recognition of his contribution in building the AFL’s 18th club.

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews encouraged all sports fans to come to Spotless Stadium. “Kevin Sheedy has been instrumental in building the GIANTS in Western Sydney and this is a great opportunity to acknowledge his contribution,” he said.

“It’s also our first game under lights at Spotless Stadium on a Friday night and a chance to watch the GIANTS after our 36-point win against the Gold Coast Suns in last Saturday’s NAB Challenge match at Blacktown.”

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day on March 17, one lucky fan attending Friday night’s game will also win a trip for two to Ireland thanks to Tourism Ireland.

Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster and start from just $18 for an adult and $4 for a junior.

All 2015 GIANTS members with game access to the 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership season will get free entry to Spotless Stadium. All members and ticket holders will also be able to enjoy free train travel to and from Spotless Stadium.

Before the game, fans can meet some of the GIANTS players and enjoy live music at The Lounge Bar and Café located on the corner of Showground Rd and Murray Rose Ave from 5pm.

Fans attending the match are encouraged to use #ThanksSheeds on social media.
