Chief Executive David Matthews said Griffen had told the GIANTS that he wanted to seek a fresh opportunity in Sydney.
"We will now work with the Bulldogs to do a fair deal in the interests of all parties during the trade period," Matthews said.
Griffen, 28, has played 202 games for the Bulldogs after making his debut in 2005.
The AFL Trade Period finishes at 2pm next Thursday, October 16.
