The 2016 NAB Draft Combine concluded in Melbourne on Sunday with a number of GIANTS’ Academy prospects catching the attention of AFL recruiters ahead of the NAB National Draft.
10 GIANTS Academy/ NSW-ACT products’ jumping, sprinting, agility, handball, kicking and fitness were put to the test across three days.
Medium sized defender Isaac Cumming was one of the Academy standouts in testing, finishing inside the top ten in three of the 11 tests.
Cumming finishing second in the kicking test with a score of 26 out of 30 and was equal third in the clean hands test with another score of 26 out of thirty.
The 18-year-old also finished equal fifth in the agility test, completing the course in 8.29 seconds.
Ryan Garthwaite from Corowa-Rutherglen also impressed, finishing equal first in the clean hands test (with a score of 28 out of 30).
Despite playing as a tall defender for the Allies in the 2016 Under 18 Championships, Garthwaite finished equal second in the goal-kicking test with a score of 25 out of 30.
Key forward Zach Sproule – who made his NEAFL debut with the WSU GIANTS in round 15 – also finished second in the goal-kicking test alongside Garthwaite.
Collingullie product Harry Perryman finished third in the clean hands test with 26 out of a possible 30, while ruckman Max Lynch registered a standing leap of 67 centimetres that saw him finish equal seventh.
Highly rated Academy product Will Setterfield wasn’t able to participate in the combine after his AC joint injury didn't recover in time.
The 2016 NAB AFL Draft takes place in Sydney on Friday, November 25.
