Small forward Jarrod Pickett will be sidelined for the next six months due to a foot injury.

Pickett suffered a lisfranc (foot) injury in the second term of Sunday’s NEAFL match against the Canberra Demons.

After consultation between the GIANTS medical team, Jarrod and a foot surgeon, it was decided that surgery was required.

The 19 year old is yet to play an AFL match but lined up for the GIANTS in the NAB Challenge and has been named as an emergency for the GIANTS on a number of occasions, including in round four.

Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said: “It’s an unfortunate injury for Jarrod who was progressing really well.”

“As is always the case with our players, Jarrod’s long term welfare is the most important thing so we’ll put in place a rehabilitation program to ensure he returns stronger than ever.”

Meanwhile, Will Hoskin-Elliott will be available for selection after missing round four with a quad strain.

Fellow forward Devon Smith (knee) will have to prove his fitness later in the week with the GIANTS medical staff unlikely to take any risks with the young leader.

Rookie Daniel Lloyd will miss one more game with a calf strain while Aidan Corr and Caleb Marchbank continue their rehabilitation from ankle injuries.
