Kids doing it tough at the Ronald McDonald House in Westmead were all smiles as several GIANTS dropped by to cook lunch and have a kick of the footy.
Senior players Ryan Griffen, Joel Patfull, Tom Scully and Daniel Lloyd spent the afternoon meeting families and cooking a BBQ as part of the Slater and Gordon Gentle GIANTS program which has now launched for a fourth season.
The program will see GIANTS players regularly visit children’s wards at hospitals across NSW, the ACT and Victoria.
Midfielder Tom Scully said players really enjoy being able to make a difference off the field.
“Seeing these kids smile and enjoy themselves despite being sick is really humbling,” Scully said.
“As players we have a responsibility to give back to the community and the Slater and Gordon Gentle GIANTS program gives us that opportunity.
“It doesn’t take much to take their minds off things - just having a chat or kicking the footy is enough to make a connection with the kids.
“The visits are also really important for the families because it gives them a break from all the stress and worry.”
The GIANTS fed more than 70 people at Ronald McDonald House and spent more than two hours signing autographs and posing for photos.
