Australian Rules Football has long been regarded as a great way to bring different people and cultures together.
The GIANTS are reaching out to young footballers form Western Sydney to build a team known as the United Nations of AFL.
Dipping into the rich multicultural make up of Western Sydney, the team unites players from all cultural backgrounds to celebrate the AFL’s Multicultural Round on Saturday, July 9.
Together with NewsLocal, the GIANTS will select 30 lucky children to form a guard of honor before the GIANTS run onto Spotless Stadium for their Round 16 clash against Collingwood.
Bringing young people of different backgrounds together can form new friendships and give them the ability to share their culture with others.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics lists more than 30 different countries as a place of birth for most major suburbs in the Western Sydney area.
Through the GIANTS Care community program, the club is actively encouraging social cohesion that unties different cultures through a range of activities.
Those chosen in the United Nations of AFL team will also receive a family pass (two adults and two children) to the game and a special supporter pack including a limited edition Giants multicultural jumper.
Entries close July 1 so get in quick.
