The smallest of margins separated the GIANTS and Swans’ Under-18 Academy sides with the home team scraping across the line by one-point at Lakeside Oval on Saturday.

Holding a three-goal lead at the last change, the GIANTS looked set to win their first match of the series before their cross-town rivals stormed home in the final term.

It was a low scoring game in near perfect conditions with the GIANTS going down 8.7 (55) to 8.6 (54).

It’s the second consecutive win for the Swans in the Academy Series, with one more match to be played in Canberra next month.

GIANTS Academy Coach Jason Saddington said his side was disappointed after showing some promising signs early.

“We had good control of the game and were hard around the contest but unfortunately we let ourselves down in the final term,” Saddington said.

“The boys lost a bit of style kicking against the wind and the Swans, to their credit, made us pay.

"There’s a good opportunity to finish on a positive note in Canberra so our guys are extremely keen to bounce back.”

Saddington said defender Harry Perryman was the stand-out while midfielders Connor Byrne and Mitch Maguire were also solid contributors.

Up front it was Jacob Turner who played as the focal point, impressing with his strong hands and leading patterns.

A host of scouts were seen furiously scribbling notes and taking photos ahead of the NAB AFL Draft in November.

Earlier in the day the GIANTS Under-16 Academy side recorded a comprehensive 40-point win against their Swans counterparts.

The final score of that match was 16.6 (102) to 10.6 (66).
